The Assistant Superintendent shall be directly responsible to the Superintendent of Schools.
This person will:
Assist the Superintendent in the general operation of the school system, to act for the Superintendent in his/her absence on all matters requiring an immediate decision and/or action and to inform the Superintendent of the same; provides direct and sustained support to the Superintendent; attends all School Board meetings unless otherwise assigned by the Superintendent or School Board; articulates and models the mission and vision of the Superintendent in all school business and communications.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated dedication to students and their needs.
Doctorate preferred or enrolled in a doctoral program and have or be eligible for a Virginia Superintendent's license.
Minimum of three years successful teaching and five years of administrative experience.
Ability to utilize technology for instruction, data and analysis, and administrative purposes.
Strong knowledge and understanding of curriculum and instruction for grades PK-12.
Demonstrated successful administrative/supervisory work experience, instructional and general leadership ability and personal characteristics necessary for working with staff, parents and community.
Strong organizational, management, communication, and leadership skills.
Models a strong work ethic and high standards for all employees.
Alternative qualifications as the Superintendent and School Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Responsibilities:
Supervise and evaluate the Director of Teaching and Learning, Director of Special Services, Director of Technology, Director of Administrative Services and Director of Student Services in the institution or modification of educational programs; with particular attention to the implementation of a 21st century educational program.
Advise and provide leadership to all school level and Central Office administrators in the development and implementation of instructional plans, procedures and policies; and in other matters at the discretion of the Superintendent.
Lead the school division's PK-12 program for teaching and learning.
Coordinate and guide short and long term planning for the school division including the school division's comprehensive Strategic plan.
Provide leadership in the public relations aspect of promoting school programs with emphasis on visibility and at community and school events.
Lead new teacher orientation, pre-school week activities, first year support to new teachers.
Keep abreast of educational developments and provide leadership in bringing pertinent innovative programs into our schools.
Establish a division wide system of professional staff development that focuses primarily on instruction, methodology and pedagogy; Keep the Superintendent informed of the effectiveness and needs of the division's instructional program; Manage and implement the Federal Programs Budget as necessary to distribute information and collect appropriate documentation.
This shall include but not be limited to:
purchasing, reimbursements, and amendments; review and maintain all regulations, non-regulatory guidance, handbooks and other publications pertinent to Federal programs.
Collaborate with principals, Title 1 and ELL personnel.
Analyze proposed policies, communicate with Superintendent and School Board regarding policy recommendations, implementation, and required regulations.
Work with school division leadership to assure compliance with state and federal mandates; Conduct monthly meetings with central office and building administrators to discuss curriculum, instruction and assessment and other pertinent matters; Assist Superintendent in the preparation of the annual school budget; identifies needs for budget preparation and develops an instructional budget in cooperation with central office and building administrators; Direct the planning and administration of Summer School and other division remediation programs; Collaborates with others (within the division, other school divisions, community organizations, and regulatory agencies) for the purpose of addressing division plans and objectives and implementation of policies to meet program needs as well as those of the Board, Superintendent, and governmental authorities; Compiles data from a wide variety of sources for the purpose of reporting, evaluating services, analyzing specific requests and/or issues, ensuring compliance with a variety of financial, legal, program, or administrative policies and procedures, or monitoring program activities and recommending solutions to a wide variety of complex issues.
Facilitates and participates in meetings that frequently involve a range of issues for the purpose of communicating information, identifying appropriate actions, developing recommendations, and guiding staff.
Monitor program/services for the purpose of ensuring stated outcomes are achieved, relevant policies and procedures are met, and services are efficiently provided within established financial guidelines.
Work with division Data Coordinator on required State and Federal Reporting and as well as Data Validation Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:
Duties performed typically in settings to include:
Central office and schools throughout division.
Frequent walking, stooping, standing, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment and materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds may be required.
Other limited physical activities are required.
Travel to schools throughout the division and central office is required.
Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
Regular contact with staff members, school administrators, and members of the community is required.
EVALUATION:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of personnel.
TERMS OF CONTRACT:
12 Month - 250 Days - 8.
5 Hours per Day Reports to Superintendent Salary commensurate with experience Primary Location Greene County School Board Office Salary Range Per Year Shift Type Full-Time.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
